WSOP at a Glance, 6/4/08

In today's news:

Spent $9,000 of my backer's money in rebuys and addons yesterday in the 1k rebuy event and didn't make it to the second break. Was at a great rebuy table to start the day with lots of donkish pros, like me, ready to gamble. Then, near the end of the rebuy period, I got moved to a much slower, nittier table. I was forced to rebuy again anyway after losing a couple of hands to Doug Lee, who then uttered this devastatingly lame line--"I think we've seen each other on TV before, right?"--by way of introduction. Karga Holt, a cash game player from Commerce and extremely down-to-earth guy, called him "maybe the biggest schmuck I have ever played with" based on the comment, which was a little harsh, but probably not too far off.

After the rebuy period, Brandon Adams got moved to my table, and I played the only critical hand of the day against him, with me holding JJ, he with AK, and stacks of 8K and 5K respectively. I lost the hand.

The 5K Mixed Hold 'Em event (Event #4) is down to the final table today, and it's a really sick final table, featuring all well-known pros and, in the chip lead, one of my best friends in this twisted microcosm of poker, David "Chino" Rheem. Take it down and don't fuck up the money afterwards, buddy.

Today I will play the 2K NL Holdem event, and I am looking forward to that.

Thanks for caring to read the comments, Shane. You seem to put effort into this blog, and beyond that, have a grasp of how media and poker interrelate. I'm a poker player just out of film school, so I appreciate it much. As someone who plays poker and smokes pot, I know how hard it is not to give up cigarettes, but the time must come for everyone.

Did you go cold turkey or have some tricks? It's pretty impressive either way. Do you try to avoid playing poker seriously at all when you're even the slightest bit high?

Sorry for the excessive questions, but is Brandon Adams really as cocky and annoying in real life as he seems in print and on tv?

Manhattan is too expensive for me, and in my mind lacks the diversity in neighborhoods that Brooklyn has. Im thinking something nicer than Bushwick but less ritzy than Park Slope.

It doesn't seem like you are having much fun. I'm in the $3000 on Fathers Day and will say hello if I see you.
